Rosemont - La-Petite-Patrie
If there's one neighborhood in Montreal where life is good, it's Rosemont - La-Petite Patrie. Geographically located in the heart of the metropolis, it's the 3rd most populous neighborhood in Montreal. Almost exclusively residential, it also boasts a number of popular commercial thoroughfares, including the newly redeveloped rue Saint-Hubert, rue Beaubien, rue Saint-Laurent and, above all, rue Jean-Talon and its legendary open-air public market.
The architecture of Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie's houses reflects the district's industrial past, with brick duplexes and triplexes. Although today's real estate projects are turning towards a certain modernism, thanks to the work of ambitious young architects, it's with a little curiosity that you'll be able to discover a few old houses, including the Maison Longpré, one of the borough's oldest.
The revitalization of the industrial sector such as Angus Workshops, now known as Technopôle Angus, is another fine example of urban renewal. In addition to residential and office space, the area is home to a host of small, friendly shops and restaurants. The sirens of the Angus Shops have given way to the clink of wine glasses at festive 5 à 7s with colleagues or friends.
On the cultural front, Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie is proud to count on cinéma Beaubien, one of the city's last independent cinemas, for the screening of Quebec and French works. The neighborhood's Maison de la Culture is another fine example of cultural events.
The neighborhood features no fewer than 100 parks and green spaces, such as Parc du Père-Marquette, Parc Rosemont and Parc du Pélican, to name but a few, where residents gather at any time of day to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. The neighborhood is also well served by public transit, with 4 metro stations, a bus network and the brand-new bicycle express network that crosses the neighborhood on a north/south axis.
In terms of hospital services, the district is home to the Montreal Heart Institute, which has just inaugurated its new state-of-the-art facilities, as well as the Maisonneuve-Rosemont and Santa Cabrini hospitals.
With all these attractions and its history, the people of this area are proud to call themselves Rosepartians, so pleasant, safe and dynamic is life here.
